Holiday Gift Ideas For Writers, Editors & Bibliophiles (Part 2)

Above: Typewriter Field Bag, US$20.
Continued from Holiday Gift Ideas For Writers, Editors & Bibliophiles (Part 1). I’ll continue this series tomorrow!
Thanks to all those filled out my survey! I’ll be announcing prize winners when I’ve finished posting the list. Also see my archived Gifts For Writers posts.

“A British propaganda motivational poster from 1939 that works well for writers!
The Keep Calm and Carry On series of gifts for all budgets. My poster hangs on the wall in front of my desk. My Keep Calm mug is full of pencils. When I am in despair, or blank, or chewing my tongue during a revision I just read those words. They ship internationally.”
The Website: http://www.keepcalmandcarryon.com/ Suggested by Kate Mayfield.

Massages at fancy day spas to soothe tired muscles - Suggested by Christine.
A netbook for the writer who is still employed full-time and wants to write on her lunch hour.” - Suggested by Christine.

Crafting gloves (they are awesome for supporting tired wrists) – Suggested by Christine.
Today I Will: A Year of Quotes, Notes and Promises to Myself
“Here’s a book I’ve already picked up for myself. Each dated entry opens with a quote from a children’s book. Today I Will: A Year of Quotes, Notes and Promises to Myself by Jerry and Eileen Spinelli ($10.87 on Amazon)” - Suggested by Carmella.

If you live with a writer, a coupon or something to take over a common household chore, like doing laundry or the dishes for a week so they can write would be helpful. - Suggested by Kimberly Bea.

Sometimes writers need a lot of caffeine. I like the teas from Scent by Spirit Teas, particularly the Absolutely Fabulous Fruit Tisane, The Final Frontier black tea, and the Sweetheart Rooibos. - Suggested by Kimberly Bea.

Nearly every writer needs to come up with names for his or her characters; how about a naming book? - Suggested by Kimberly Bea.

If your writer’s apartment is cold, why not get him or her some fingerless mitts or gloves? I knit and crochet my own; you can find patterns on www.knitty.com and on www.ravelry.com if you’re a member. You can also find so cute ones on Etsy, or just cut the fingers off cheap knit gloves from Target. You could probably stitch around the fingers so they don’t unravel. - Suggested by Kimberly Bea.
Shop Indie Bookstores
“At the top of my list this year for writers, the book “What It Is” by Lynda Barry, available here at Barnes & Noble. Also at Amazon, which has a slew of interesting reviews, but Amazon can’t promise in time for Christmas. As writers, lost in a world of words, we often forget the link between images and writing. This book, a wrap-up of her creative writing course, is stimulating without parallel.” Suggested by Barbara P.

Fisher SpacePen – Mine never seems to run out of ink. – Suggested by Mr Uku.

Dorothea also suggests a SpacePen: “Every writer should own at least one Space Pen. They are very cool pens that let you write upside down, in the rain, and more. So there’s no excuse for not writing! Available via Internet (and probably at better writing instrument stores). Here’s are some of my favourites: The Wedge or Zero Gravity ($12.50 – $14.00 plus shipping) and The Bullet series ($28- $31 plus shipping).

Snuggie, the blanket with sleeves – so I can snuggle on the couch with my Moleskine and SpacePen. – Suggested by Mr Uku.

Large thermos mug so I don’t have to keep getting up to go to the kitchen – Suggested by Mr Uku.
Writer’s Bag: “When I was little we used to get a craft bag every Christmas. It was full of crayons, paper, glue, etc. I’ve asked for the same thing but with the office supplies I use when writing. Take a medium sized gift bag and fill it with some of the following: pens (different colors) pencils post-it notes (in fun shapes/colors) highlighters note cards notebooks Starbucks gift card new coffee mug Candle/something cute for a writers desk (I have a framed greeting card that my mother gave me, that I cherish)” – Suggested by Carrie.

Short Circuit: A Guide to the Art of the Short Story (Salt Guides for Readers and Writers) Ed: Vanessa Gebbie Pub: Salt Publishing 15 Nov 2009 pp. 277 ISBN:978-1-84471-724-8 Available direct from http://www.saltpublishing.com or from Amazon USA $26.94 or UK £14.25 A collection of twenty four specially commissioned essays from well-published short story writers in which each essay picks up on one or more craft processes. Contributers include Tobias Hill, Clare Wigfall, Tania Hershman, Elizabeth Baines & Alex Keegan. A great gift for short story writers – haven’t put my copy down yet. – Suggested by @eleventhjacinth.

“Printer ink cartridges! Unromantic but oh so needed. And for something less practical, a lovely glazed ceramic mug from an artisan to inspire writers while we drink herbal tea and type in the winter!” - Suggested by Kate Fall.
Shonna Slayton compiled her own list of Gifts For Writers.

Fast fact about writing

Ancient writing (at first pictographic in nature) is best known from clay and stone inscriptions, but the use of perishable materials, mainly palm leaf, papyrus, and paper, began in ancient times.
