January Roundup: Hot Tweetables from #WU

I think it’s safe to say we’re all psyched to see the end of January, of long dark days and the infamous Polar Vortex. The only thing keeping us warm is the litany of publishing news. This month we saw research proving print sales aren’t decreasing, but remaining steady and growing in some areas, in spite of trends of increased e-reading. We grew ecstatic over the Digital Book World Conference and the importance placed on putting the author first. Not to mention, we marked our calendars for the next Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest, which now has a set date. There’s plenty more juicy news where that came from. Get started with the links below!

About Heather WebbHeather grew up a military brat and naturally became obsessed with travel, culture, and languages. She put her degrees to good use teaching high school French for nearly a decade before turning to full time writing and freelance editing. Her debut historical, BECOMING JOSEPHINE, will release as lead title in January 2014 from Plume/Penguin.

As an editor, Heather spends oodles of time helping writers find their voice and hone their skills--something she adores. She may often be found twittering helpful links, sharing writing advice and author interviews on her blog Between the Sheets, or teaching novel writing and publishing classes at a local college in her community. Another favorite haunt is the popular, award-winning site RomanceUniversity.org where she contributes to the Editor's Posts.

When not writing, Heather flexes her foodie skills and chases her young children. You may even catch her gobbling the odd bonbon.Web | More Posts

"Critics are by no means the end of the law. Do not think all is over with you because you articles are rejected. It may be that the editor has his drawer full, or that he does not know enough to appreciate you, or you have not gained a reputation, or he is not in a mood to be pleased. A critic's judgment is like that of any intelligent person. If he has experience, he is capable of judging whether a book will sell. That is all. (Junior editor, Harper's Bazaar, 1866)"
